Kling AI edges it for most game devs (60 vs 56), but it's closer than the ranks suggest on some signals. How we score

How they differ

Kling AIText/image-to-video generator

A focused generator strong on multi-shot clips with synced dialogue and fine motion controls. Flow and Seedance offer similar native-audio generation. Runway and Luma bundle many models, including Kling, in agent suites.

Best for: Character-driven trailer beats or social clips with dialogue, made from key art or concept frames.

RunwayMulti-model video studio with an agent

Less a single model than a production suite: its own Gen-4.5 and Aleph editing plus many third-party models, an agent and a timeline. Luma is the closest suite rival. Kling, Seedance and Flow centre on their own models.

Best for: Trailer and social-ad production where you generate, edit and assemble shots in one place. Also mood reels and concept frames.

Runway

Where you use it

Web Creative Studio (Generate, Omni, Canvas, Agent), API platform, MCP and CLI.

Web app, iOS and Android apps, developer API and MCP server. The main site has moved to runway.com.

You give it

Text prompts, images, start and end frames, Elements and Omni references, and reference video for Motion Control.

Text prompts, first-frame images, reference images, existing video to edit, and scripts or audio. Or a brief given to Runway Agent.

You get

Kling 3.0: up to 15-second multi-shot clips with native audio and lip-synced dialogue, up to 4K. Kling 4.0 launched October 2026.

Clips from its own Gen-4.5 and hosted models (Seedance, Kling, Veo, Wan), footage edited with Aleph 2.0, plus images, voice, music and sound effects.

How you steer it

Camera movement, motion brush, start/end frames, Elements library, Omni Reference, multi-keyframe control (4.0), Standard or Professional mode, Motion Control.

Model choice, reference images, keyframe-guided Aleph edits, Act-Two performance capture, node-based Workflows and Agent Skills.

How you refine results

Extend with prompts, batch variants, lip sync, and node editing with agent-written scripts and storyboards in Canvas.

Chat with Runway Agent, edit one frame and let Aleph carry it through the clip, cut in the built-in timeline, rerun Workflows, upscale or convert to HDR.

Pick Kling AI if you want

  • Native audio and 1080p/4K output in one pass
  • Realistic human motion (hair, fabric, gait) in same-prompt tests
  • Cheaper and faster to iterate than Seedance in a side-by-side test

Watch out: Free outputs must keep Kling branding and can't be used commercially; Mid-table on independent boards (#15-17); Kling 4.0 not yet benchmarked

Pick Runway if you want

  • Fine camera and motion control (motion brush, keyframes)
  • Character consistency across shots
  • Good lighting on human subjects

Watch out: No native audio; Mid-to-low rank on the current AA text-to-video board

Runway

  • Artificial Analysis Video Arena AA-Video-T2V-Silent v2.1 (text-to-video, no audio): Runway Gen-4.5 (720p) #24 of 32
  • Artificial Analysis Video Arena AA-Video-I2V-Silent v1.0 (image-to-video, no audio): Runway Gen-4.5 (720p) #25 of 81
  • UD Same six prompts run through Veo 3.1, Gen-4.5 and Kling 3.0. Gen-4.5 was rated the clear winner for camera control, motion brush and character consistency across shots, second for realistic humans (good lighting, stiff arms), and behind Veo on prompt adherence. It also lacks native audio.

Vendor claims (not scored): Kling AI: Kling 3.0 & 3.0 Omni: 'Native multimodal video generation with native audio and advanced consistency control.' Kling 3.0 Turbo: 'Enhanced Audio-Visual Sync. Faster Generation. Lower Cost.' source · Kling AI: Kling 4.0 officially launched 15 Oct 2026 with native generation of up to 30 seconds in a single pass and 'Omni Reference' accepting up to 15 reference assets and 10 keyframes (press release, no benchmarks). source · Runway: At launch (Dec 2025), Runway said Gen-4.5 was the world's top-rated video model, citing #1 on the Artificial Analysis T2V board at 1,247 Elo as of 30 Nov 2025. That board has since been replaced by v2.1, where Gen-4.5 is 24th of 32 (silent). source · Runway: Runway's app and MCP now also offer third-party models, including Kling 3.0/O3 (Sep 2026) and Seedance 2.5 Draft Mode (Oct 2026), plus Mirelo SFX 2.0 for sound (Oct 2026). source

What it does
Kuaishou's AI video generator (Kling 3.0 / 3.0 Omni, Kling 4.0 since Oct 2026) for text- and image-to-video with native audio, usable for trailer shots and teasers.
AI video, image and audio generation (Runway Gen-4.5 plus third-party models), usable for trailer shots, teasers and marketing material.
Verdict
Good value for realistic trailer shots with native audio and 1080p/4K output; free outputs are watermarked and not cleared for commercial use, and its ranks on independent boards are mid-table (Kling 4.0 is not benchmarked yet).
For generating trailer and teaser shots; the terms don't restrict commercial use of outputs, but Runway may train on your inputs and outputs.
