AI tools for Unreal Engine developers

Short answer: Unreal Engine 5.8's documentation describes Unreal MCP, an experimental Epic plugin that lets agents such as Claude Code, Cursor and Codex drive the editor over a local connection. Beyond that, AI reaches Unreal through editor plugins like Ludus AI and generators whose files Unreal imports. Below: what each tool costs and whether you can ship it.

Tools with an official Unreal Engine plugin, integration or export

16 tools whose vendors document an official Unreal Engine plugin, integration or export target, in alphabetical order (this isn't a ranking). Most other tools export standard files (PNG, FBX, GLB, WAV and so on) that work in any engine: see all tools. Check each tool's commercial-use notes before you ship.

Unreal MCP: Epic's way to let an agent drive the editor

Epic lists Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code (GitHub Copilot), Gemini and Codex as clients it can write a config for.

AI coding agents and in-editor assistants

Claude Code, Cursor and GitHub Copilot aren't Unreal plugins, so they aren't in the list above; they edit C++ like any other code and connect to Unreal MCP. Ludus AI runs inside the Unreal Editor.

Asset generators that export to Unreal

Check the plan before you generate: Meshy's free plan licenses output under CC BY 4.0 (credit required), Tripo's and Scenario's free plans aren't for commercial use, Sloyd's free plan is a personal-use licence, Hyper3D Rodin's commercial terms are Not stated by vendor, World Labs Marble lists commercial rights on its Pro plan, Retro Diffusion says everything you generate is yours, and Cascadeur's Indie plan allows commercial use only under $100,000 a year in revenue or funding.

AI NPCs and voice at runtime

These run as live services while your game plays, so their terms keep applying after you ship. Each tool page links its pricing and terms.

Does AI change the Unreal licence or royalty?

Questions

Does Unreal Engine have MCP support?

Yes. The Unreal Engine 5.8 documentation describes Unreal MCP, an experimental plugin that runs an MCP server inside the editor on your own machine. Epic says to use caution when shipping with it. source

How do I connect Claude Code or Cursor to Unreal?

Enable the Unreal MCP and All Toolsets plugins, start the server, then run ModelContextProtocol.GenerateClientConfig ClaudeCode (or Cursor) in the editor console to write the config file, and start the agent from the project root. source

Can I use AI-generated assets in a paid Unreal game?

We didn't find anything about AI on Epic's licence page. What matters is each AI tool's terms: our cheat sheet lists, for every tool, whether free-plan output can go in a commercial game. This isn't legal advice. source

Can I sell AI-generated assets on Fab?

Yes, tagged: Fab's Distribution Agreement requires the CreatedWithAI tag when a material portion of the content is generated with generative AI. source

Which AI 3D generators export to Unreal?

In our listings: Meshy, Tripo, Hyper3D Rodin, Sloyd and World Labs Marble, each with a different licence catch (see above). source

Does the Epic Games Store require AI disclosure?

We didn't find a requirement as of the check date. Steam does ask, in its Content Survey. source
