MCP servers for game-dev AI tools

MCP (Model Context Protocol) lets a coding agent like Claude Code or Cursor call another tool directly, so it can make a sprite, a voice line or a 3D model without you leaving the editor. Vendors describe their servers in very different places, so this page puts them side by side.

Short answer: Of the 52 AI tools we list, 24 publish an official MCP server your coding agent can call, including Scenario, Leonardo.Ai, ElevenLabs, Krea and Bake3D. 4 have only community-built servers, such as Gridly. Some need a paid or API plan and a key. Engine editors have their own MCP servers, covered on each engine page.

Built from the MCP field on each tool page. "Not stated by vendor" means we haven't found or checked a vendor page saying either way. Community servers aren't reviewed by us or by the vendor.

Steps 1–2the same for everyone

After that, pick Sign in with OAuth (Claude Code) or Paste an API key (Cursor).

  1. Check the tool has a server, and who made it

An MCP server is the tool's side: it lists what the tool can do so an agent can call it. Your agent (Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Windsurf) is the MCP client that does the calling. Official servers come from the vendor; community servers are built by someone else.

    1. Find the tool in the table above and read its MCP column.
    2. Open the setup page link in that row. For an official server it should be on the vendor's own site or repo.
    3. For a community server, check who wrote it and when it was last updated. Gridly's, for example, is a personal GitHub repo last updated in April 2025, not something Gridly publishes.

You should see: The vendor's own setup page for the server, with its address (a URL such as https://mcp.scenario.com/mcp) or install command.

Watch out: A community server isn't reviewed by the vendor or by us. It will see whatever key you give it.

From the official docs: Scenario MCP: Getting Started ↗

  2. Check what plan and sign-in it needs

Servers sign you in one of two ways. OAuth opens your browser so you log in with your normal account. An API key is a secret string you copy from the tool's developer settings, often only on an API or paid plan.

    1. On the setup page, look for the words OAuth, API key or token.
    2. Check which plan it needs. Leonardo.Ai's docs list "Any Leonardo.Ai API plan" and say its connector "currently requires an API key". Bake3D says to create a key on a Pro or Studio account.
    3. Check how calls are billed. Krea bills OAuth sessions to your workspace's compute units and API-token calls to a separate API balance.

You should see: You know whether you'll sign in through the browser or paste a key, and which plan or balance pays for each call.

From the official docs: Leonardo.Ai: Connect with the MCP Server ↗

Then pick your path

Sign in with OAuth (Claude Code)

  1. Add the server from your terminal

Scenario, ElevenLabs and Krea all give a one-line Claude Code command that adds their hosted server over HTTP. Scenario is the example here.

    1. Open a terminal in your project folder.
    2. Run claude mcp add --transport http scenario https://mcp.scenario.com/mcp.
    3. For ElevenLabs the address is https://api.elevenlabs.io/v1/mcp; for Krea it's https://api.krea.ai/mcp.

You should see: Claude Code confirms the server was added to its MCP list.

From the official docs: Scenario MCP: Claude Code ↗

  2. Sign in and test one call

The first time the agent uses the server, it asks you to sign in through your browser. Scenario says to run /mcp inside a session if that doesn't happen on its own.

    1. Start Claude Code and type /mcp if it doesn't ask you to sign in.
    2. Finish the sign-in in your browser.
    3. Ask for something small first. Scenario suggests "List my Scenario teams".

You should see: Your agent lists your Scenario teams (or, for another tool, answers from your own account).

Watch out: If your Scenario account has more than one team or project, the server won't pick one for you. Your agent should ask which to use.

From the official docs: Scenario MCP: Test the connection ↗

Paste an API key (Cursor)

  1. Create the key

Leonardo.Ai's server only works with an API key for now, so this path uses it as the example.

    1. Sign in to Leonardo.Ai on an API plan.
    2. Create an API key in its API settings and copy it somewhere safe.

You should see: A new API key listed in your Leonardo.Ai API settings.

From the official docs: Leonardo.Ai: Create an API Key ↗

  2. Add the server to Cursor

Cursor reads MCP servers from a file called mcp.json. Leonardo's docs give the exact entry.

    1. In your project folder, create a folder called .cursor with a file called mcp.json inside it.
    2. Add a "leonardo-ai" entry with the address https://mcp.leonardo.ai/v1/mcp and a header named API-Key holding your key, as shown in Leonardo's docs.
    3. Open Cursor Settings MCP and check Leonardo.Ai is listed. Leonardo notes MCP tools only work in Cursor's Agent mode.

You should see: Leonardo.Ai listed under Cursor Settings MCP, and a generate-image tool your agent can call.

Watch out: Don't commit a config file that holds a real key. Krea's docs give the same warning for its API tokens.

From the official docs: Leonardo.Ai: Configure Cursor ↗

Before you ship: check credits and terms

  1. Calls spend the same credits or API balance as the tool's website or API. Bake3D, for example, lists a mesh at 30 to 55 credits by quality tier, rigging at 25 and a described motion at 10.
  2. Some servers do less than the full product. Leonardo's says to "use the API" for tools or models its server doesn't support yet.
  3. Output made over MCP is under your plan's normal terms. None of the vendor pages we read set different licence terms for MCP, so check each tool's commercial-use section before you ship.

From the official docs: Bake3D docs ↗

  • ScenarioCommercial on paid plans only50 daily credits; personal/evaluation use only pricing
  • Leonardo.AiCommercial use allowed150 fast tokens/day; creations are public pricing

Questions

Which AI game-dev tools have an official MCP server?

24 of the 52 tools we list, as of the check dates in the table. They include Scenario, Leonardo.Ai, Meshy, ElevenLabs, Krea, Bake3D and Unity AI.

Does Leonardo.Ai have an MCP server?

Yes. Leonardo's docs say it needs a Leonardo.Ai account, any API plan and an API key, and its tool today is image generation with Lucid Origin, Lucid Realism and Ideogram 3.0. source

Is there a Gridly MCP server?

We found only a community-built one (an MIT-licensed GitHub repo by an individual developer), not one from Gridly. Gridly's own docs describe a REST API with API keys. source

What's the difference between an MCP server and an MCP client?

The server is the tool being called, such as Scenario or ElevenLabs. The client is the agent doing the calling, such as Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot or Windsurf.

Do MCP servers cost extra?

Not in the docs we read. Calls use the tool's normal credits or API balance, and some servers need an API or paid plan, like Leonardo.Ai (an API plan) and Bake3D (keys on Pro or Studio).

Does ElevenLabs' MCP need an API key?

Its hosted server signs in with OAuth ("no API keys"). ElevenLabs says the older open-source server runs locally and needs an API key. Its FAQ says the hosted server is "available in Claude and Claude Code today", while the same page shows setup for other assistants too. source

Engine editors have their own MCP servers: see the Unreal, Unity, Godot and Blender pages. Written from the official documentation linked on each step and checked . No vendor reviews or pays for these guides.
